Civil War letters to Bell Halsey, later Bell Miller, from her brothers, Dr. C.E. Halsey (d. 1862), assistant surgeon, and E. Sidney Halsey, both members of the 40th (Mozart) Regiment, New York Volunteers, including Dr. Halsey's descriptions of his work and observations during the Peninsular Campaign, especially the battles of Fair Oaks, Williamsburg, and Yorktown, and letters relating to the changing attitudes of soldiers after the hardships of camp life, marching, and battle and contraband found in secessionists' houses; pencil and pen and ink sketches by the Halsey brothers of Camp Bliss, Upton's Hill, Va., Carver Hospital, Washington, D.C., Fair Oaks battlefield, and Langley, Va.; and other papers.
